CO2-Building Modernisation Programme in Germany
The CO₂-Building Modernisation Programme in Germany is funded partly by auctioning revenues through the Climate and Transformation Fund (‘KTF’ from the German Klima- und Transformationsfonds). The programme provides financial incentives to invest in new buildings and refurbishments according to newly defined energy-efficiency standards. The Program has supported over 6 million homes, 4,000 social and municipal infrastructure buildings, and 8,000 commercial buildings. In the first half of 2021 alone, around 110,000 new measures were approved, resulting in an anticipated annual reduction of 255,000 tons of CO₂ equivalents and €3.4 billion in energy savings. Auctioning revenues play a vital role in financing the programme. The largest share of this climate fund goes into funding energy-efficient refurbishments of buildings.
